Discharge by Frozen Fractal

[raw]
made by Frozen Fractal for LD32 (COMPO)
Marooned on a hostile planet, your enemies are trying to hunt you down with their thundership. Trees provide cover; mature trees release seeds when hit. Follow the trail to safety.

Fullscreen is recommended! The intro screen hints at an ending, but it's infinite play. Extra joy!

Only tested in Chrome, probably works fine in Firefox as well.

Features:
- a custom infinite procedural terrain based on fractal Brownian motion,
procedurally spawned trees,
- tree seeds that you can use to plant new trees,
- procedural lightning, also based on fBm, with a custom shader,
- an enemy with moderately crappy AI,
- a skybox with custom sky shader,
- shadows and light effects,
- particle effects,
- a HUD,
- 3D positional sound effects,
- heck, even some gameplay!

Post-compo fixes:
- Plugged a bazillion object leaks. Somehow Three.js documentation and examples never tell you to call dispose(). Probably this was what caused crashing tabs after a while.
- Clarified instructions regarding tree seeds.

Great game! The decoy mechanic makes it feel a lot less "get run down by an angry cloud" although it's unclear why this cloud hates trees.

Fun little game, although the sound is a bit patchy after a while on Chrome 41 on Windows.

Works great on Firefox! Wonderful low-poly graphics, cool idea, and challenging gameplay. Even more impressive is the procedural generation behind the scenes! Fantastic work, although after dying a dozen times I'm going to come back to this one :) The running and decoying really makes it more engaging than just running would be!

Nice concept! The art is really good too, my only concern is that the game becomes boring after some time because the difficulty stay the same.
Anyway, good job!

Amazing! I really felt scared of the lighting cloud. wonderful environment, reminds me so much of Polyfauna, the Radiohead/Thom Yorke App. I would definitely recommend you check that out, they create a wonderful environment through Thom's trippy music. Throwing the tree was cool too. Good work!

Fun to play, however when you learn how the thunder cloud works it seems quite repetitive.

Great game!
The graphics create a very fitting mood, there just seem to be some performance problems for me ...

You've done a lot of things that I hope to do someday at a high level: shaders, procedural generation, and particles, props. A charming little game, my dear chap!

Fun little game, like it as a complete package, and the visuals are really good. Of course, its lacking in depth so I got a little bored of it after a few minutes, but good fun while it lasts.
