Je Suis Charlie by Paulozz

[raw]
made by Paulozz for LD32 (JAM)
Hi,

We are Paul and Harriet. It's our first Ludum Dare, and for Harriet, it's a very first look into game development.
We had lots of fun during the week end!

As the theme was "an unconventional weapon". We chose a pen and few positive words as our weapons, and we made a small game to honor the memory of the journalists who died in the "Charlie Hebdo" terrorist attack in Paris earlier this year (and all the other victims of terrorism in the world).

Weblink is for the Unity Web Player version
X360 pad is recommended, but you can play with the keyboard (w and s to move, arrows to write a peaceful word).

The rules are little bit complex for new players. An in game tutorial may help.

Je suis Charlie ! Is there a category for the most politically engaged game ?

Very simple but funny game with some mind behind. The begin is a bit difficult to understand with to do.

Interesting use of real life events. Maybe change some of the key bindings so that you don't fire words just by moving up or down?

Good message, but you should only be able to shoot one shot at the time because it was easy to just mash all the buttons

it could help if the words were more slower at the beginning and then increased in speed .

Your game has a nice message to it. Using your voices for the music / sfx was charming. I got to 70, but I would say that a few more movement patterns for incoming words might be a way to add a welcome bit of variety to things. Nice work!

Nice! The necessity to compensate for vertical motion when using Peace and Freedom makes it tricky but fun.
Good onya for honoring the memory of the victims.
