Quest for the Golden Spork by squirrelbot

[raw]
made by squirrelbot for LD32 (JAM)
Quest for the Golden Spork is a top-down combat game with three weapons: a spork, a frying pan, and some building blocks. However, you can only carry one at a time, the rest are kept in the shopping cart. A golden spork is stolen from you by some spaghetti cultists, and you must quest to get it back.

Currently there is no web version, however the desktop should work on PC, Mac, and Linux. It is recommended that you read the in-game how to play in order to fully understand how it works.

Enjoy!

The cart is a great idea, but there should be a way to retrieve it when you push it too far into a corner.

Having narrated audio is a plus, but ingame sound effects for attack and taking damage are missing, feedback would really make this game more fun.

Seconding the cart retrieval comment. I think a graphic during attacking that graphically shows where the hit box covers in front of the character would help a lot more than animating the characters sprite each attack (and be just as quick to execute). For an example of what I mean check out the original NES LoZ sword attacks.

This is such a fun, strange little game. I think you could add some of the missing sound effects into the game now without suffering any kind of penalty, it'd help up the user experience factor big time!

The pixel art is pretty nice, and I like the narration in concept. However, the narration seems to cut out at the beginning and end of each clip (sound is not timed properly?), so it's hard to tell what's going on. Also, as stated by others, more feedback on the combat would be very helpful, and a way to pull the cart would both be very useful and make a lot of sense, since it does have a handle after all.

Nice game! I love the narration! The golden spork (can't believe spell check doesn't recognize that) is an execellent use of the theme.
My only gripe, I wish I could move faster, and it's really hard!
Great work, keep it up.

Hard game. Part of the hardness does come from the combat being a bit shonky but the rest of the game is great. I love the shopping cart and the narration.

Different entry, I liked the main concept, but missed audio effects. Also, having some attack indicator could be cool. Nice work!

Interesting game! Great art and narration! Still can't beat the boss though xp
About the gameplay, I think it lacks a bit response to the combat.... I can't really tell if I'm hitting or not something... But still great job!

A story-driven top-down combat game? That's nice! :) The idea of having a cart/item storage, instead of a magic satchel is a nice one.

Nice work on the art, but as some said: some feedback or attack animation/particles/indicator would be nice, the same could be said for sound fx.

Nice work on the soundtrack! :)

I had to skip the boss fight with my god, after a couple of minutes without understanding what to do i gave up.

The music is very good and the narration fits well into the idea.

Really good and solid music but the game itself really lacks in good gameplay/idea by that i mean it's not that fun to move around with the cart and trying to destroy the enemies. but it was not bad. i guess it's just because i like more gameplay than a story in a GAME.

I liked how quirky the game was, and the narration was a nice touch.

Great idea and audio, both music and narration. The cart was a bit annoying to push around though, would have been nice if it moved faster

Very cool game, but I really wish the mechanics were tighter: audio feedback, non-glitchy tiles, and somewhat more intuitive shopping card mechanics. Loved everything else --the story, humor, and pacing-- which was spot on! Great job!

Cool concept, but the gameplay feels more like exploiting strange behaviour than tight gameplay.
