Ally VS Wild ! by LeReveur

[raw]
made by LeReveur for LD32 (JAM)
Hello ! That's the first entry of our team (we don't even have a team name), as I was the only one that has experienced the great LD adventure few times before.
This was a little stressing, as we lost most of our time on a good idea but, as always, too huge to be finished before the deadline.
So, yesterday morning, we decided to save what we can and make something else with it, and that is : Ally vs Wild !
It will not be the most astounding game you'll ever played, but at least, it works. And the theme is respected. Approximately.

You can play either with mouse or keyboard, in every case you can't lose, because Ally is a wise child, and a child's good game have only winning rules. But you can try to make the better score after finishing the level three.

love the music and the feel of the game, the collision detecting seems somewhat buggy though, it would be helpfull to see where you are actually shooting like a spray or something..nice first game!

Maybe I just did not understand the game, but I had a lot of fun killing the bugs.

I couldn't really follow what was going on -- maybe add some projectiles so I can tell what's happening when I fire my gun?

Hard to understand what's going on. The art that's in there looks good though.

It took me a while to figure out how to play. Some bullets and more accurate collision would be nice. Great music and art!

Fun, but not very obviouse how to control it at first. It could have better feedback if there will be graphics of water shots towards the insects.

This game is really short, I didn't expect that ='). But the experience was nice. A tutorial of some sort would help though! Congratulations on finishing on time ^^

The music was really good, but I don't really get what you're supposed to do. I got through all the levels, but can you ever get a higher score?

this reminded me of worm womper for the intellivison, which was a game I totally forgot about until just now, so thanks for the wicked nostalgia there. The big problem is not being able to see your projectile. That adds so much to the experience that it just can't be left out like this!

Art and music is great, but the animation is so stilted. You'd almost be better off taking a south park style single-frame jiggle for walking under these time constraints. That's LD for you, though.

Hopefully you still had fun even if your first idea fell through.

This was alright. I can see you were strapped for time. The bug art is cool and the character looks good, though the animation could be a little smoother.

Ally has a pretty wide spread with that gun, huh? I guess that helps since there isn't any targeting indicator. Her hitbox seemed larger than it should be. She'd sometimes strike a sullen pose when there was still a decent buffer between her and a bug.

Thank you all for your wise comments. :) The lack of time due to "last chance concept reconversion" has dramatically reduced our capacities to fully adjust the gameplay - and this is not the first time I got stuck with that bad hitbox behavior (I know I would finish, soon or later, to solve this by making mine, instead of use the one embedded in haxepunk, but it will take a certain time). In fact, I choose to also use it to find the closest target to hit, and that's why it's very difficult to understand why one bug is hit over another when Ally fired in one direction. And, trust me, until the last minute I tried to make that weird hitbox work better, but I failed - and I'm sorry (and a little upset) for that. ^_^

Great title screen and good music. Did not understand the game, but for some reason I won.

You can only win (or never can lose), the only difference is the final score. ;)

Work on graphics and audio was nicely done.

I couldn't really understand what to do or what was I doing in the game the first time I've played. Controls feel a little bit slow also.

Projectiles could help, as some said, and also some sound fx. :)

I like the graphics and music but the controls lack feedback - the shooting felt kinda strange (wide angle?).
