Towel Boy by zdavid112z

[raw]
made by zdavid112z for LD32 (COMPO)
Towel Boy is a simple game where you basically you must hit people with your hot towel. Find crowded locations on your radar and enjoy hitting people. There are 4 levels in total. Might add more on a post compo version.

How to play:
Use the left and right arrow keys to move
Q to attack
W to special attack (costs 75 xp)
E to towel vortex (costs 250 xp)
ESCAPE to go back (only while in a menu)

There are different goals in each level. Some require you to fill up the xp bar, destroy all the enemies or survive the time. All they have in common is that you must hit as many enemies as you can.

Programming language : Java
IDE : Eclipse
Images : PaintDotNet
Audio : BFXR, FruityLoops

I really had fun making this game and i hope you have as well playing in!

Change Log:
-v1.1 Made help menu appear before you play
-v1.2 Added objective indicator on each level
-v1.3 Added information panel on the selection level

Funny game :-) People flying off remind me a bit of super smash bros. And a towel is really an unconvential weapon. One thing: I wouldn't put the Instructions into "About", just show them before starting a Level.

Very entertaining! The music was kinda haunting and creepy, I really liked it! The disappearing / reappearing levels in the level select was a little strange, and it wasn't super clear what the specific goals per level were unless I just overlooked something. Overall the gameplay was really fun and I'd definitely play again if more content was added. Great work!

Funny Game, Has a couple of good game modes. Super complete. Sound of people flying is really annoying though. I like the graphics and the audio is ok.

the people flying off was funny. I didn't get I had to select the circles in the level select at first, but got it eventually. The towel hitting got a bit repetitive, but the different modes helped change it up. good job!

I wasn't sure what to expect, here... But the experience doubling as a tool for stronger attacks made for a neat little game. Definitely more fun on the more crowded levels. :P

Couldn't tell if I was accomplishing anything when I was just making people jump rather than sail off smoking, and had a hard time figuring out if there was any particular timing that would give me a good success rate at the latter.

I also lost on some levels without any clue as to why. Especially on levels where the screen was fixed (no where to go left or right) and I filled the green bar all the way well before time was up.

Level selection was cool, once I figured out what it was. :-)

Would have enjoyed a good sound when you whack someone with a towel!

Funny game.

It would be nice if you could jump and thus juggle your targets. Moving while attacking is also desirable. Both of those elements would significantly improve the dynamic of this minigame.

Also, It would be better to have clearly stated goals. Once you're in the level, things are not well explained at all. Some one-time instruction like "kill them all" would be good. The UI elements could be more clear.
