Tourist Trap by Pajama-Llama

[raw]
made by Pajama-Llama for LD32 (JAM)
Hey everybody!

This time for our new jam we made Tourist Trap, a game where you have to lure tourists to your pizzeria through the narrow streets of Venice.
You can lure tourists by playing your music in the right rhythm, or you can scare them away by playing false notes.

We were a bit too ambitious I think and made the game a bit too complicated, so if you have difficulties, let us know!

Edit: Disabled WebGL Build because it appears to be broken.
Edit2: Fixed MipMap Settings which caused tourists to look pixelated

Interesting and amusing. I felt the music was quite repetitive, but the art style was nice! The game was quite confusing to get the hang of but near the end of the first round I figured it out.

The controls didn't seem to give very helpful feedback. I wasn't sure if I was pressing the buttons on time or not. I also feel like an "attraction" bar or some indicator to let you know tourists are following you could help.

Over all, quit encie!

I love the pencil drawing style of the buttons and the whole map itself.
Curious and fun game idea.
The QTE gameplay was a little bit repetitive.

Very unique. I made $120 but then no more tourists spawned. I liked the art style very much. I felt that I was penalized for hitting notes a fraction early, but not for hitting them very late. It would have felt better to me if there was an even window around the beat since that would have allowed me to use my ears to hit the buttons too. As it was I almost had to block out the music since I had to aim to hit the buttons a bit late to make sure I got the music going.

Awesome art style and music. Maybe make a bit easier to get to the pizzeria, as I didn't understand why tourists kept following me after a first try of leading them there.

Beautiful to look at the gameplay is fun (I love a rhythm action game). Music works really well with it too, the way the buttons on my gamepad corresponded to the way the instrumentalists were positioned in the band was a nice touch.

I did have a problem that there were only 2 groups of tourists, so once they'd gone for pizza there was nobody else to lure into my cheese and tomato trap.

I'd perhaps make the levels shorter or have tourists coming out of shops. Maybe a mechanic for later levels would be having people that you DON'T want to go to the Pizzeria.

Cool idea. It took me a second to realize that I needed to hit the keys when the circle closed around the buttons. And I'm glad you had the buttons positioned accordingly around the band, too, since they didn't match the keys I was using.

The hand-drawn art is really pretty, and there's a lot of it. I like the style a lot.

I made $300!

One of my favorites so far! Fantastic Music and Art, it made me a lot of fun. It just took some time until I understand how to get the people in the pizzeria. It made me sad to interrupt this beautiful music to push them :'(

I was surprised when my band died an unfortunate death. Not sure what happened there -- did they fall in the river? That's not exactly in keeping with the mechanics of the game; I shouldn't have to worry about that.

The graphic style is really neat and I like the music. Having to ruin the music to get people to go into the restaurant was unfortunate. The timing for key presses was also not quite intuitive.

It's a good idea, overall, but it right now it's the sort of game where you could memorize the best route and be done with it, more or less.

Great game. I was horrible at it, but it was a lot of fun. I think you should make L and K have more influence on the sound. I heard a few misplaced guitar string when missing K, but overall hitting or missing it did not affect the song like J did.
