6210 B. C. by Phil Strahl

[raw]
made by Phil Strahl for LD36 (COMPO)
Okay, this time I hardly made it but at least it's something almost playable.

The idea in 6210 B.C. is to gather enough resources for your civilization to develop new technologies that help your gathering progress.

What I got is the gathering phase with two technology levels.

~CONTROLS~
* WASD or arrow keys to move around
* SPACE or E to interact
* ESC to quit
* P to Pause

~HOW TO PLAY~
Without the proper tech you can't fell trees or mine piles of stone, you have to collect loose twigs and pebbles first and deliver them to your village.

Should you get lost, there's an arrow above your character's head that's always pointing to your village.

Walk up to a resource and hold down the interact button (E or SPACE). When you gathered enough, head back to your village to deposit your materials. If you collected enough stuff, you'll unlock a new technology.

If you've made it to tech level 2: CONGLATURATIONS !!! You've seen all there is to the game. Please don't try to gather for the tech-level after reaching level 2, because there is no new content waiting for you, just endless grinding and a crash upon reaching level 4. So don't do it.

~REMARKS~
I am pretty happy with the graphics and the overall style and maybe there's some future for this game since I had a whole bunch of ideas that wouldn't make it in the game, such as fighting against other clans and upgrading your weapons. If you spend too long on gathering than on upgrading the tech, the other tribes would suddenly have more advanced weapons than you, for example. Players would have had to balance fighting and gathering and what resources they spend for which domain.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy it despite the clunky UI and lack of sound.

I suggest adding a download link or if your game is web-based, then adding the game directly to this page. The screenshots look cool, though!

So after playing this game for some time i noticed:
why am i doing this, there is no gameplay realy.
You just run around holding space.
On the other hand the art fits with each other so that's somthing i guess.
So there's missing something, as much i hate to say it: add a enemy like a bear.
It gives somthing to look out for,
and it gives reason to scavenge.
And that is to get a tech advanced enough to hunt the bear.
So yeah the game at this stage is not great,
but's your call what to do with it.

@ninja00283 Thanks for your feedback. Yeah, as I said in the description, there was a lot more planned but time ran out on me. At least I got the sprites for enemies and weapons already drawn, though ;)

Hi, nice game and congratulations ! Simple mechanics that still offered a decent amount of challenge.We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description.

Art work is really good i liked it simple and good color choices ^^ I excepted a crafting or like that because looked like a crafting game at first. After that i got it and started collecting somethings :D The sound i didn't heard but it's ok i couldn't set the sounds for my game either. Just one bug made me think, i collected what needed, went home and boom.. i got the weapon of next level without pressing 'E' but there is no problem with it i liked this game overall. Good job in 48 hours.

@Xlip: Thanks for your feedback and the bug report. Code got a bit hacky towards the end of the deadline ;)
