Happy ! by Yamzho

[raw]
made by Yamzho for LD32 (COMPO)
Here is my entry to the 32nd Ludum Dare : HAPPY !

The unconventional weapons you gonna use are hugs and love cans ! Yes, that's right, you will have to spread happiness ! ;)

I have used Eclipse IDE for Java, Gimp, As3sfxr and ChipTone. I also have been blogging (in French) during the competition there: gamejams.yamzho.net !

Controls for the game:

- Arrows (or WASD) to move around
- 1 to hug the nearest angry person (if you're close enough)
- 2 to drop a love can (more powerful than a hug)
- 3 to be shielded for few seconds, preventing every happiness loss

Fun with nice minimalistic style. Difficulty jumps a bit too much around 90. As everyone said this would be good on mobile (maybe with auto-hug)

This is great! I really like the message. I agree with some of the other comments that this would be a great mobile game.

Great stuff! Graphics are great, gameplay simple and effective. Did crash on me though when I tried to place a can for maybe the third time.

I really like the tutorial as a infographic, it's a good little arcade game, as the others, I would cheer you to porting it :)

Nice and simple game! The idea is really good. The graphics are simple but extremely polished and coherent, and I like that a lot. :D
There may be a little bit too many enemies spawning too quickly though, but that makes for a good challenge!

Really simple game, but very well made and enjoyable. I included it in part 1 of my Ludum Dare 32 compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/-ZkAqIe6FiQ

Nice art style, I loved it. But I think the game is a little bit hard, I did 74 points, and the ANGRY ones starts getting impossible to kill. But overall, nice game! =D

I enjoyed this game! The visual style is simple, but VERY well-conceived and enjoyable to look at! The sound effects I did not care for. I don't mind the game not having music, but I feel like the sounds could have been better-chosen. Mechanically, it's solid, though I feel the take-three-hits dudes show up too fast and take over the screen. I would suggest either making the bomb recharge faster, or making it able to hurt more than one enemy at once, so it's not as much of an annoyance to handle those guys. They're not that HARD, but if you want to kill a group of three you have to lead them around in a circle while waiting for your can to recharge and that's just not fun. Overall though, good job, and I appreciate the positive theme.

Pretty simple but it's very well done and nicely polished (although controls are slightly awkward if you use WASD). Also, like everyone else in the comment, I propose you port this to mobile.

Neat concept. It's pretty simple, but really nice and polished. The graphics themselves are fantastic, and the sound effects suit it quite well.

Fun little game.

It lagged a lot on my system though (Linux)

Pretty cute little game! The main problem I have is that the player has to get on top of enemies to hug them, but for some of them, contact also hurts you. It was confusing since the enemies chasing me made me feel like I was supposed to run away, but the mechanics told me I was supposed to go touch them.

It would've also helped a lot to have some sort of meter representing the cooldown on your other attacks. The can seems to be the best way to deal with the angry guys, but it takes a long time to charge and I really have no idea when I'll get another one.

The game's pretty fun to play though. I could see myself killing a little time with it on my phone.

Great job! Cute idea, funny, and challenging as you go along. I scored 111 :) It seems to reach a point where all you can do is bunch the angry fellows together, since the cooldown of the love can is longer than the spawn of the grumbly guys. I agree with the others, this could make a nice mobile game!
