Gear Kitty by Raiyumi

[raw]
made by Raiyumi for LD36 (JAM)
This is my 6th Ludum Dare entry and it's always an awesome, yet stressful experience. I had to cut back a lot this time, specifically the dialogue and having a more streamlined gameplay experience, but I managed to get something out which is great! I hope you enjoy. :).

Omg I love it! The art is just incredible, and the game in general is quite original. Really fun, hope to see more! I had some problem with the jump (not falling in the pits) but it's probably just me trying to go to fast. Really good job overall :)

Wow, wow, wow! This is what a LD platformer entry should look like! Nicely done. Probably the prettiest entry I've played this jam.

I do wish that it didn't say "You can do it!" at the top for the whole game though, it would help to be able to see upwards :)

wow this is a really fun and interesting platformer. The "You can do it!" message does get in the way after staying there for the whole game.

Hi, nice game and congratulations ! great retro style ! Simple mechanics that still offered a decent amount of challenge. We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description. (you can already find several games from the jam there)

Oh this is gorgeous, i love the cog mechanic.

I did not like that you have to press up to auto-save, i forgot about it the first time i died and thought the game had glitched out because i lost the ability to cling to cogs. It seems odd that platforms don't reset but abilities do.

I'd also argue that the "you can do it!" message didn't need to stay there the whole time, the animation when you're gaining the powers is a bit long, and the triple jump was a bit disappointing since it doesn't feel very different from the double jump.

With all of that said though, most of these are minor things, i played through the whole thing and really did love it! Great job!

Awesome as always, Raiyumi!

It's kind of funny how you and @managore, another incredibly talented MetroidVania designer, had very similar ideas for this Ludum Dare.

Amazing pixel art!

At first the little "You can do it!" message was cute, but it never went away and actually covered up a couple of the platforms in one of the puzzles.

It would've been nice if the checkpoints saved your progress when you walked past them; there were a couple times I fell and had to redo section because I forgot to save, especially when I was on my way back from hitting a switch or getting a powerup.

This is hands-down the best entry I've played yet!

This game is a piece of work! Polished, deep gameplay with simple yet interesting mechanics. Smooth controls, pleasant visuals, everything is great. Add more content and you can sell it! I would definitely buy it on steam )

Amazing on all levels. Great art, great theme-based gameplay, you kept the scope of the game simple, and the audio is perfect.

Good, game! The learning curve was a bit hard, but music and visual were decent. Good job!

It was so short... >__<

The graphics really stand out! Everything looks great, and the low-colored palette is really effective (as well as the contrast between character, interact-able stuff and the background).

I liked the song, but it felt somewhat repetitive after a while...

The cog mechanic is fun and interesting. If expanded, it seems really fitting for speedrunning.
But, nitpicking, the camera felt too slow. Either it should move quicker and adapt for your current speed (e.g., showing what's bellow you when you're falling) or you should be able to control it (even if only slightly).

A very well polished game! Great soundtrack, pretty art, and tight platforming! The gear and jumping puzzles were simple but well done. A game oozing with charm, well done! Has potential if you continue working on it.

Really cute and awesomely polished entry. I experienced a weird bug in the up are after unlocking the triple jump where going onto the firts moving platform there I would automatically teleport onto the platform on the up right. The platformer physics were really tight and it was sometimes hard to evaluate if we could make a jump or not but the gear mechanics were nicely done. Really unique artstyle and atmosphere.

Cute <3 I started playing pretty quickly because sidewards movement and gear rotations speed was a little slow and frustrating for me. The art is the best I've seen so far in a LD entry, and the helper box at the top is incredibly cute! Gonna steal that concept, if you don't mind! :)

The graphics are amazing - as well as the animations. The music fits well and is enjoyable to listen to just having the tab open in the background. The game is a little easy, but if this was the beginning of a longer game it wouldn't be a problem. This is a small detail, but maybe make it even more obvious that you can't make the jump right at the beginning if you go right and don't have the double jump, because I actually made the jump without a double jump but then later failed to reproduce it, maybe it was a framerate thing? Another small thing would be to make the Cogwheel upgrade look different from the jump upgrades.

This is a great entry under every aspect. Nothing to add.

Very nice entry. It feels very complete, except for the overall shortness and simple ending. In other aspects, I've enjoyed it much, and I would not mind to enjoy it a little longer.
Got a bit lost after picking up the first heart, dying, and respawning (didn't understand that upgrade have gone after death), the checkpoint near the first powerup (so after death I could see that it pickable again) could smooth it a bit.
And kitty is absolutely cute, as kitty should be.

That was great. Loved the music. Polished and just the right length for a jam game.

This is an awesome submission. The music is great, and the sounds are spot on. Jumping around felt perfect, especially after the third upgrade.
The character and background art was also spot on, and generally the 8bit vibe was superbly achieved.

I loved your game, short but enjoyable. I found interesting the gear mechanics and how you use the multiple jumps as power-ups, and the art is amazing. Well done!

Also, Metroid style power-ups are always cool!

I've played this just after I've played managore's game so this was smaller, but looked much better.

At least, you can still improve this game with more things to do.
