PHARBA by Awpteamoose
A game, where your only weapon is a paint bucket.
It's a local versus game that supports 2-4 players.
Every player controls an invisible man, who carries a paint bucket.
Your goal is to paint your opponents before they do the same to you :)
You can choose out of 9 levels for now.
Let the splat madness begin!
Make colors, not war!
CONTROLS:
Esc - go back.
Enter - start game.
Player 1:
WSAD - movement
U - splat red
I - splat green
O - splat blue
Player 2:
Arrows - movement
7 - splat red
8 - splat green
9 - splat blue
You can, of course, use generic gamepads:
Left stick - movement
B - splat red
A - splat green
X - splat blue
Press multiple keys at once to mix colors.
Different colors have their own cooldowns.

Would be nice if you could actually emulate paint physics, but it is a 2D game.
Really well done.
I love the idea !
Really interesting gamplay. Good and simple art. 5/5 !
Interesting idea and it looks and feels pretty nice too.

There's not really a reason to having three different colours, they all do the same thing, the "different cooldown" thing doesn't make a jot of real difference, and, while it made cool colour combos, the colours where mechanically pointless. If the paints had different mechanics associated, then sure, three colours. As it is now, it's much better to assign each player a different colour so that the game communicates what's going on better.
The fact that there's no sound for footsteps after a player isn't coloured anymore is weird. Doesn't make sense and takes away from the idea that you're walking.
Too much aimlessness... If both players didn't want to give away their position, you'd end up with... a lot of nothing going on at all.
Overall you need more "tell" as to what's going on. Giving players a goal to shoot at is fundamental to gameplay.
Multiplayer is hard to test anyway! So kudos for giving it a try :)
Colour theory wise... Mixing different colours of paint will never get you to white :) So just no. Make it a muddy brown :P If your "metaphor" is paint then stick to paint :)
Many thanks.
Your criticism is very valid and those things were not design choices, but something we plainly didn't have time to do.
We only realised we made it far too difficult to figure out which one are you after we played it in more or less the state it is now, but it was too late by then. Different colours on different buttons were pretty much planned from the get go as a way to provide "charges" for the splat "ability", except they weren't numbers, but different colours.
Also, the decision to take the sound away is based in the fact that audio is not a very reliable indication of things in local multiplayer games. You play with friends and talk over the game so tying an important gameplay moment to it wouldn't be quite right.
We also did plan to add something that would force matches to end, but didnt't have time to implement it because of possibly unnecessary rigidity of our code.
Stay tuned for post-jam developement and we might just change your mind.
Creative, fun and simple to play, loved the use of splatting colors as weapon, the graphic style and soundtrack! :3
Had to do some lonely play here because don't have anyone to play with right now, but loved the idea! :)
(Very "Unfinished Swan"esque!)
Very beautiful and well made! Congratz! :)
Really nice innovation with the paintings, loungy music and still a solid entry.
