Travelers by Jhandsy

[raw]
made by Jhandsy for LD32 (COMPO)
In Travelers you play as a sentient sword who must use the imprinted souls of travelers to move from place to place.

EDIT:
I removed the first arrow shooter, making that unrealistically difficult first room more accessible. Sorry about that everyone! Also, the controls have been updated!

Controls:
X: Throw Sword (As Swift or Shield)
Z: Block (As Shield)
R: Restart Room
Left, Right, Up, Down: Move (As Swift or Shield)
X + Up: Summon Swift (as Sword)
X + Down: Summon Shield (as Sword)
Space: Jump (As Swift or Shield)

Really interesting concept, if a bit off-theme. Pretty good realization.

Interesting concept, but it seems like there isn't a chance to really come to grips with the controls before you need to combine several of them with tight timing. It would be nice to switch back and forth without switching back to the sword in between.

I felt it was off-theme; But the graphics were really good and detailed.

Damn, this is really brilliant. Seriously, I absolutely love the concept. Very creative mechanic, although a bit hard to master, but once you do it feels AWESOME. But please, oh PLEASE change the controls. That button layout is so awkward and hard to use that it nearly ruins the entire thing.
I really like the idea, and I hope that you keep working on this and make it into a full game. Great job, congrats!

Hey thanks for all the kind words! I'm going to change the controls and re-upload it soon. Yeah I definitely could have given it a better difficulty curve. It's very sharp right now.

Seems like a good game. I couldn't get passed the first pit with the arrows firing over it. I like changing characters, though!

This is a great and fun game mechanic! However, you really really REALLY need slick and responsive controls to make it work! Also, I don't really see how this is connected with the theme... maybe should've been entered into the jam. Beside that, this was a great entry!

Could you explain how to get past even the first room? I figured out to kind-of-double-jump using jump-D-1, but I still could only *almost* reach the ledge above the starting position. It seems like a fun game, I just have no idea how to get anywhere :)

Yeah another sword game!! :) Like plams I couldn't get past the first room. I just don't know what to do. A few hints would be nice. I will try this again later.

I'm afraid I couldn't do anything in the game. The game looked exactly like the image when I started it, but nothing happened even when i pressed any of the buttons listed in the instructions.

Even with the controls listed it was difficult to handle and undesrtand what happens. Since controls depends of your form ( swift / shield / sword ) maybe you shoudl add an ingame instruction bar listing ONLY the controls of your current form. This way people wont get stucj on first screen anymore and they will learn the different moves one by one.
