Where's Manno?
--------------

That is all you have to commit to memory while playing this dark, glitchy, first person exploration game. If things get too hairy, use your rubber chicken. But like all weapons, even those aimed at self balance, you must use it with moderation. Listen carefully.

Instructions
------------

Use WASD or Arrows + Mouse for moving.
Left shift will make you run, but remember, running is exhausting

Use Space or Mouse Button for rubber chicken (it will sooth your nerves in the short term but make you more edgy in general).

If you don't like the controls, get the downloaded version and re-map them.

Have headphones or some good stereo sound.

Find Manno

_IF_ you have trouble finding Manno, I've added some detailed instructions here https://github.com/local-minimum/wheres_manno/wiki

----------------

If you leave a comment, even if just a short one, and do it non-annomously. I will play your game (given that my computer can run it and that I don't have to download some really shady looking 3rd party stuff) and I try very hard to give good comments.

Very strange and interesting game. I didn't manage to find Manno, sorry. The sound and visuals became a bit overwhelming after a while. As I did the mistake of running it in windowed mode, I also had some trouble navigating, as the mouse ended up outside the window all the time. Might pick it up again later though. I want to find that Manno..

Whoa. I think I might be high.

Seriously though, I really liked the visuals and audials. I was actually pretty horrified at one point. With some touch-ups, this could be the next Slender. I don't understand the purpose of the rubber chicken, but I used it a ton and everything seemed okay.

Woah this is sick! I couldn't find Manno, though I searched for quite a while...

That was awesome! Short, but awesome! Should definitely be played with earphones, for truly immersive psychosimilitude.

@Borkleby I updated the instructions here to hint the functionality of the weapon

@Jakob37 I must have forgotten to properly lock the mouse, I can see that annoying clicking outside happening since the head turns rather slowly. And finding Manno is definitely worth it, so hope you give it a second try.

The wavy shader looks cool but I got a little motion sick. :-) Some collission detection problems (I could walk into walls) but good game. 10/10 best game ever, would play again. ;-)

I don't know why, but there is something really disturbing in this game. When I started hearing the crackling noises, I freaked out and closed the tab with the game.
I wonder where is Manno...

"You don't even have to use drugs for this. But it's better." Quite an experience you've created. The effect is however over the top and I got sick quickly.

@DKoding & @Jadernak I was indeed considering putting up a warning about motion sickenss. I suppose it wouldn't have hurt to give the player a chance to scale it back a bit if it was too much so it stopped people from enjoying the game.

This game was pretty weird, which isn't a bad thing ^^

Art and sound worked really well together, by the way, the voice-acting was an awesome detail.

Just two small suggestions: higher movement speed for the player and an option to disable/lower the effects. I don't usually have issues with this kind of things, but I got dizzy after playing for a while.

Great work and quite original!

@Ludipe I totally forgot to include the instruction that left shift makes the character run! And since quite a few people have suffered nausea while playing I'll add a "Take it down a notch" option after the voting. Must be I'm pretty immune to motion sickness. I didn't really think of nausea being an actual problem in non VR games.

I like the effect but it was too much to play for more than a few minutes. The voice got really annoying after awhile--I did "follow the light" but the lamp didn't seem to do anything.

Next time I will not forget to bring my rubber chick to a heavy party :) A really extraordinary and cool idea. But who to find Manno? :)

This is definitely the first game of its type Ive played for LD. I really liked the visual aesthetic but I too couldn't find manno and had to stop after a while due to the warping motion. Really nice entry.

I love the sfx and ambient noises. Using the chicken as a weapon to keep your sanity is definitely an interesting take on the theme. Art is great.

Need to trap the mouse in window, the vfx are fun but start to get me dizzy after a while. The light might be brighter or more obvious in chicken mode - it's especially misleading if you use the chicken in a place where there are no lights. The "over here" could be positional if it's not.

Overall excellent atmospheric entry just not that fun for me.

@SimianLogic @TeamFlare @paulfysh @Crefossus and most everyone, I've added instructions to the wiki (see link above) for how to get to Manno. I think this shows that I need to have made the first light source in the start room more obvious to the player. Many get it without noticing. Probably there needs more/better queues on where to find the next part. I'm thinking of havining player rotate towards the source of the voice each time it calls out. Maybe change the "You are not Manno" sound clip to something that more clearly indicate that while it was the wrong thing, you/the character is progressing.

Wow, what an interesting and unconventional concept. It took me little while to find Manno (and my head hurts a little now), but this was definitely a great gaming experience.

very good work

I found Manno. But I still don't really understand... Very 'trippy', visually very good, and the audio is really strong.

i also feel a little sick after the bendy screen effect.. i found manno though :D it was kinda scary before i found out what to do, and with the darkness in the air. i just felt dizzy again >_>. I think all the other effects were nice but not the bendy one.

Wow - creepy as hell. In a good way. The pulsing of certain items with the heart beat is a great touch.
The warping could be toned down a bit - maybe have it increase more with exhaustion/edginess, but subside with use of rubber chicken. (what a weird sentence ;)
At first I thought I wasn't able to find Manno but it turns out I had and it didn't register. It did on the third attempt though.

Manno was difficult for me to find as well. I tried to use the guide but, the trippy graphics combined with a little girl whispering at 11AM was too terrifying for me to focus!! I mean this all in a good way of course :) The chicken was a odd choice though... but, I do think it was a great use of the theme nonetheless. Audio was spot on, but some instruction in the beginning would have been nice.

I see what you mean about having a similar mood to my game :) But hot damn, that was confusing!

Wow! That was an exotic experience. It's kind of crazy.
At certain moment I got stuck, but the instructions helped me to finish it. The weapon is really cool, although isn't essential to finish the game.
I liked the voice acting. Nice entry.

Probably the most trippiest and confusing entry I've ever played.

Quite trippy! Well made. I included it in part 10 of my Ludum Dare 32 compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/3cEj0moqZLI
