Hemland - a Roguelike!

A Roguelike with unlimited scope - giving the player the fun of experiencing the unlimited amount of enemies, a fun variety of weaponry and Perma Death.

Beat down the hordes of enemies as you step down to the core roots of the Earth itself - using your sword, laser saber, a diary or even by using Japanese robots of total destruction.

And please kill the Amigos at sight, they actually do deserve to die.

Best regards, please enjoy and have fun!

// Oskar

The level system is pretty interesting, but movement can be slightly annoying as you can't move in two directions at once.

Overall nice job.

The haunting music adds a creepy feel. I was a bit confused by parts of it. The controls would sometimes feel stuck when changing directions. Enjoyable game!

Tanks a lot! If you feel that the movement with The keyboard is slow, you can also move by pressing the mouse!

Okay, but a little unpolished. Easier control with the keyboard and the game would be so much better.

Hej Linus! I am sorry to hear that!

It's expected to at least have Java 7 - if you have a lower Java version than 7 you are open for hostile attacks as of Oracle not patching security threats for Java versions previous to 7.

You can upgrade to Java 8 at:

On linux with both java 7 and java 8, I just get a black screen that never does anything.

It looks good and I like the comments that come up when you're attacked, etc. I didn't get at first that you can kill the monsters by walking into them - maybe that should be explained at the beginning.

There are things that I like, but the controls are a problem, you made an awesome game, funny, extremely complex and well designed, but a relly think you have to make better controls.

Thanks Andrew!

@bpvelloso: Thanks a lot!! I wanted to improve the controls, graphics and sound - though I was closing in on deadline and have a family that had to be prioritised.

I wanted to improve the controls, I am sorry that I couldn't give you a better game experience, I will try to do better next Ludum Dare!

So I can move diagonally by right-clicking, or orthagonally with arrow keys, but there's no crossover between the two? Input seems very stuttery as well, you should try to either buffer inputs or else respond consistently to overlapping inputs (e.g. always move in the last direction pressed) to improve that.

I don't know how you designed the enemy scaling, but I found a prophet of Bharg in the second room that was ~3 times stronger than me.

I think there's a lot more you need to do with this game to make it a really good experience.

Like the random maps. But the maps could have more features, and why are the graphics so small? How do I attack? Also the controls get stuck if I hold one direction first then another afterwards.

The controls are a bit touchy. But good job still.

Cute little roguelike and it was fun to try out. However, I did have some troubles to attack the enemies, and would like to see more dev of this game! :)

Ok I played for a while, and stopped when I took stairs from 3->2 and got apparently stuck in limbo. Very cool, you have a solid basis for a rogue-like. My small gripe with it is that there is actually no player skill required, apart maybe from speed-clicking the coins to heal (:P), and too few items (yet the excitation of finding a chest is always there). I'd recommend distinguishing between item-chest and gold-chest for increased reward feeling.
Like said before, the controls are also a bit annoying, but you get used to them eventually (at least I did). Kudos for not imposing wasd on us Azerty guys ;).

To give you a quick answer on MagDef: you just need to click a research once to start it. Its progress is then showed inside the planet and updates every second until it's done.

Nice roguelike. The rooms felt a bit empty.
