Unicycle Survival by Jogy34

[raw]
made by Jogy34 for LD32 (COMPO)
This game is about surviving a zombie unicorn apocalypse with a unicycle. your goal is to find enough supplies and food for your scientist to find the cure. There is a clock in the upper left and your food and supplies are in the lower left. Every hour supplies and food are consumed. You loose when your food goes to zero. If you loose all of your life you respawn at your base and a day's worth of food and supplies are used to heal you. You only have so much energy and you loose some from moving and from attacking, you regain it when standing still and if your health drops below a certain point you gain an adrenaline boost. You can regain health at your home base. The food and supplies in each section are reset every few 'hours'

Controls:
WSAD - Move
Space - Attack
Z- Talk to people

P.S. I lost almost all of my motivation in the last two or so hours of this competition so I didn't end up not implementing everything that I was planning on. Also, I ended up leaving the food and supplies drops as green (food) and black (supplies) squares.

big world! I was able to get to the store and the car place, but not sure if I collected enough food or supplies. The moving slower and slower with your energy going down made it a lot more hard to go through the world, maybe if the recharge was a bit faster. nice work!

Everything seems to work according to plan. Energy system gets a little annoying at times. Otherwise good game. I thought the grass texture was not good. You need to get rid of the shadows so that it tiles better.

An interesting idea. The energy system seemed overbearing most of the time, making the game slower for no apparent reason. The grass in the field could use a bit more variety or texture, since it is difficult to get your bearings when crossing it. The game actually became more enjoyable when I was at low health, as the adrenalin boost mechanic changed the movement from barely bearable to merely annoying. Since the movement speed seems tied to the percent of energy available, not even the adrenalin mechanic makes it feel that much better.

When you come back from the car zone you spawn at the unicorn center. The zones were a bit too big for me.

I liked the joke but why there are normal zombies, that run way faster, in a unicorn apocalypse?
Needs more work, at least to fix the bugs.

I feel like you have a very interesting start here. With a little tweaking (Faster energy recovery please :) ), this is a solid start. I just wish I had been able to play more of it! I can see the seed of a good idea here. I hope you keep on making games, because I'd love to see what you come up with!

Fun concept and well put together. At one point I left the parking lot and ended up outside the unicenter instead. Once I got back to the base one of the NPCs, the mechanic maybe?, was un-interactable. The letter 'z' appeared in the corner like usual when I got close to him, but pressing it did nothing.

Cool idea! I like how the 'cycle slows down when you are running out of power, making the game feel more like a survival horror game than an action one. Terrain is a bit bland.

Very much fits the theme. Interesting idea, but I found it quite difficult to withstand the zombeh unicurns ; _ ; but overall good job!
