Vampire Slayer Deluxe by iMer

[raw]
made by iMer for LD32 (COMPO)
Vampire Slayer Deluxe is the newest game in the vampire slaying game buisness.
It features a rich story and some very unconventional weapons, which, as every vampire slaying fan should know, are needed to kill vampires!

Our hero is sent out to stop the vampire mafia from stealing all the packages and boxes, sadly he doesnt anticipate his equipment - which he let deliver via mail - being stolen!
He now has to fight his way through, to get his equipment back and more importantly, to end the vampire mafia!

Features:
* Cross-Bow:
What is more effective then wearing holy crosses to repel vampires?
Shooting them with them of course!
That's why we took a boy.. and a nearly unlimited supply of crosses and put them together! THE CROSS-BOW! ORDER NOW!

* Holy Water Launcher
Ever wondered if you could use the advances in weapon technology to ward off vampires more effectively?
Wonder no more!
We made use of high tech rocket launchers and put them together with an old, proven, vampire repellant: holy water!
It'll literally fling vampires away.. through the wall, they'll be gone though!
THE HOLY WATER LAUNCHER! BUY NOW!

* Sun Cannon
Vampires hate the sun right? They crumble to ash if they get hit by a single ray. So one of the best ways to defend yourself would be your own private sun, correct? Of course we are!
Our engineers put together a device that launches artifial suns to vaporize² all those pesky vampire problems of yours!
How you ask? SCIENCE!
THE SUN CANNON! ORDER NOW!
² does not actually vaporize vampires

My 4th entry, a sorta shooty platformer (yes, one of 5 quadrillion platformers.. I know.. I know).
I apologize about the third level, but I am falling half asleep on my chair.
Sounds are crummy aswell, but they work.
All in all still lot's of room to improve

Controls:
WASD/Arrow to move
Mouse to aim, Leftclick/Space to shoot
1-4 to select weapon

No osx build, sorry!
Building should be fairly easy, just initialize all the git submodules and throw cmake at it (SFML may need some more dependencies on osx).

EDIT:
For anyone having issues firing, the first slot does in fact nothing. You have to collect your first weapon. (Pro-Tip: There are only 2 possible ways to go)

Sprites aren't bad. Shooting didn't work, I could run and jump but none of the keys or clicking let me fire.

Lighting looks really good. But its worthless since the rest of the game isnt very good at all...

An interesting game. I played the first two levels and a bit into the third. The first weapon didnt seem to do anything, was that intentional? The knockback on the weapons, especially the third was quite extreme and made the game easy. The fact that blood was a few discrete particles with physics, making them roll around on the ground, cracked me up. It's a nice touch that the game auto pauses if you alt tab.

Heh, fun little game.
I've lost on the first level because I've shot down my cross with the other cross. But that gave me an idea. A salvo of hi-speed suns accelerated by the holy water. Last boss wasn't up for this.

Didnt find the game very fun ... No end title, no music, only sounds (that are quite bad ..) At least the theme is respected and you had fun making the game !

Hi, very cool! It's actually confusing to have the 1st slot active but not be able to fire. The jump feeling is a bit weird also. Excellent job on the lighting, it was very pretty. The weapons also felt pretty different, but for the enemies, the bats were actually more annoying than the vampires :p. Cool sounds overall.

Yep, the first weapon doing nothing threw me off, but as soon as you realise what the crates do it's fine.

I actually though it was great, you can tell a lot of work went into this as there's actually quite a lot of content: 3 weapon types, 2 monster types, 3 levels and a last boss.

The last weapon was excellent, the lighting, the movement, brilliant.

I tried the Linux dl, but in the end I got the following error:

./LD32: error while loading shared libraries: libxcb-image.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Jumping was a bit off, quickly shooting up then floating down. Bat sounds were a bit annoying. First weapon didn't seem to do anything. But all in all, it was a good entry, good weapons and setting.

Jumping was a bit weird for me, and there were tons of bats, but pretty neat game. I included it in part 10 of my Ludum Dare 32 compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/3cEj0moqZLI
