Aquatic Regia by swinestudios

[raw]
made by swinestudios for LD32 (JAM)
You have been sent to explore a mysterious cave that contains valuable treasures, but beware for there are aggressive piranhas guarding them. Luckily, or rather unlucky for you, you have only been given a bubble gun to fend off the piranhas.

The goal of the game is to "finish" as many consecutive levels as possible by collecting a set amount of treasures at each generated level.

Controls:
Arrow keys - move up, down, left, right
Left click - shoot a spread of bubbles
Esc - pause menu

NOTE:
We spent far too much time on the random cave generation and didn't even manage to complete it. If you get stuck inside a closed-off area, you can go back to the main menu and enter again inside another randomly generated cave without penalty towards your current run.

Fun idea with great mood.

The graphics are neat and the mood is perfectly set. I really enjoyed floating around gathering the treasures. I do wish the controls were a little more floaty, but thats just me.

Youve addressed the random generator problem and its not cumbersome to restart so thats good.

Its a neat idea; I hope you guys continue it.

I love the caves -- very interesting to move around and explore.

The music was very satisfying, too.

The bubble gun was a little unwieldy to aim -- maybe if you had to get *under* the piranha and the bubbles shot upward like real bubbles?

Fun game! I agree with the other comments that the bubble gun doesn't work all that well, but otherwise nicely done.

Nice idea, good music.
You should continue it by maybe adding more features to it!

Good entry!

Random cave generation is cool - I did get stuck once, but mostly got pretty interesting levels. The music works well!

Fun gameplay and the graphics and music set the mood well. I disagree with some of the posters above: the bubble-gun is well balanced for the sort of gameplay I think you were aiming for.

Cool weapon idea, but it does feel ineffective. Would be good to be able to aim it some.

It was a couple levels before I realized that I had beaten any levels, seemed like being teleported.

The controls seemed a bit snappy for an underwater scene, but the fish moved faster which made sense. I'd really like a counter for the number of treasure boxes you have left to collect. I also didn't figure out that there was a weapon until I came back here to rate the game... but I had enough fun just running away and collecting treasure as I could get it. Keep up the good work!

Obviously not very fleshed-out, but I can definitely see where this was going. Love the concept, and the awesome music really gives it a cool feel.

Nice atmosphere, I liked the blue tones and chill music - definitely made me want to explore the mysterious ocean depths.

Weapon was nice - certainly unconventional in that it didn't damage anything, but rather pushed enemies away. Makes me want a future LD theme to be something like "enemies can't die".

I feel like the objective could be more interesting than "collect the treasures", but I'm not sure what that would be.

Nice work!

Nice game, a bit repetitive but it's a good start

Polish the randomly generated caves, I am getting done collecting treasure in a zone but warp unexpectedly to somewhere I don't know. The idea is good. You should disable damage taken from the fish when they just got "bubbled".

Fun game. I disagree with the other comments, I thought the bubble gun fit nicely. It could have used some kind of difficulty curve though, the levels got repetitive after a while.

i like the grafic style.
sadly it looks unfinshed when you come close to the edge of the level
