A Monk's Tale by Aaranos

[raw]
made by Aaranos for LD32 (JAM)
Description:
An RPG that follows the tale of Dartinian, a monk with an eccentric personality. Dartinian was kicked out of his temple for his conduct and headed towards Marronburg, the capitol of the human race, in search of work. It is there that we pick up his tale where he was gathered with others to take on a task.

Notes:
The story roughly follows the tale from a Dungeons & Dragons game that my group and I played. Some details were changed due to limitations on the software used to make this and for the benefit of time. This is also my first competition and first time ever touching RPG Maker.

Instructions:
Similar to a GBA game.
Z - Action/Interact
X - Back/Menu
Enter - Select
Arrows - Move

Tools:
RPG Maker VX Ace
GIMP

Bug Fixes:
- Tybo House map transfer took you to wrong area, has been fixed in 1.1

Appreciate the story, but the generic RPG Maker assets and game mechanics have been done to death so much it may be a good idea - with time and experience - to try breaking out of the paradigm of pre-prepared tools. It's still a good first foray into Ludum - I hope you do well.

Keep in mind, for LD, that people only play a game for 1 to 2 minutes so they can rate as many games as possible. Even playing for 10 minutes, I did not see any indication of unconventional weapons. The unconventional part was disrobing, but that was not used as a weapon. If you had instead make disrobing your main attack, you could have had the enemies die from shock. Great rpg and story in general. I think it would do much better in a different venue.
